As the Director of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in leading our London-based engineering team to own the product development and delivery of an innovative Software as a Service (SaaS) platform focused on software supply chain security
You will drive the growth and optimization of our SaaS offering, overseeing product development to ensure high performance, scalability, security, and the integration of innovative features
Initially reporting to Luke Hinds, our CTO, you will have a significant impact on shaping the technological direction of our platform, contributing to the success and growth of Stacklok

Role Success: 6-12 Month Expectations
A comprehensive understanding of our current technology stack, architecture, and engineering processes
Lead the engineering team to successfully deliver key product milestones according to our established roadmap for 2024
Work hand-in-hand wit product leadership to establish performance and scale benchmarks and goals to support the business. Establish concrete engineering, staffing and operational plan to exceed the needs of the business
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team, emphasizing the importance of scalability, reliability, operational maturity and security
Establish strong cross-functional relationships with product management, design, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and objectives
Recruit, onboard, and mentor top engineering talent to scale the team effectively, with a focus on individuals who have experience in developing high-performance SaaS solutions with a strong adherence to security best practices
Requirements:
Proven experience in software engineering leadership roles, with a track record of delivering high-performance SaaS services that handle large volumes of data while maintaining security, integrity and state
Experience scaling a startup resourced engineering team through later funding rounds, with teams in excess of 50-100, with the proven ability to scale through others as a manager of managers
Strong background in balancing development and operational oversight of live services, with familiarity around SRE based operational practices
Experience leading teams with expertise in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes
Strong knowledge of software scalability, performance tuning, and optimization strategies to ensure responsiveness and reliability under heavy loads, particularly in the context of high serving capacity
Familiarity with compliance standards and regulations related to data security and privacy, such as GDPR and HIPAA
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve common goals by leading by example and seeking to serve those you manage
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced startup environment
Experience in the security industry is strongly desired, but not strictly required
